DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
Department of Biochemistry was established in 1981. Department is committed to teach Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Diploma students. Research activities are also conducted both for the learning and better insight into the investigation for various diseases. Department is having 24×7 running Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory that deals with clinical diagnostics services for IPD, OPD and emergency samples. Department has two unit, first at Ground Floor, Gandhi Medical College building and second is Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory at Kamla Nehru Hospital premises.
Faculty and Staff:
The department is having total 8 faculty members including 1 professor, 2 associate professor, 3 assistant professor and 2 demonstrators along with nonteaching staff.
Infrastructure:
Departmental infrastructure provides adequate space and equipment’s for Research, Investigations and Teaching activities. Departmental Library is enriched with more than 600 books of National and International authors.
Academics:
250 seats for MBBS course are available which was upgraded from 150 seats in year 2020. 04 seats for annual uptake of M.D. Biochemistry course has started since year 2020. In addition to this, 3 PhD seats (affiliated with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur) are also available. Apart from this, teaching for various other courses like B.Sc. Nursing and Paramedical students (DMLT, DPT) are also done.
Diagnostics:
Well qualified signatory authorities, technicians, laboratory assistants and laboratory attendants are present in the clinical biochemistry laboratory. About 500 samples (approximately 3000 investigations per day) are reported in clinical biochemistry laboratory. One endocrinology laboratory also present in our department which is situated at ground floor of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal. About 70-80 samples are received and reported every day for hormonal analysis in endocrinology laboratory. Good quality control with precise and accurate reporting on HIMS System is maintained in the laboratory.
Equipments:
The department of biochemistry is having various equipment’s like BA400 (Fully automatic), semiautoanalyzer, Elisa reader with washer, electrolyte analyzer, digital spectrophotometer, centrifuge machine , digital turbidometer, digital incubator, pH meter, binocular microscope, water bath , digital weighing machine,HPLC, Gel electrophoresis, digital colorimeter etc.
